Angus Boyd - Head of HSEQ - Compass One

Angus joined Compass One in September 2024 having worked in facilities & food services for over 25 years.  Starting out advising small businesses, the challenge of trying to persuade engineers working out of railway arches to improve people's conditions had him hooked on safety.  In 2005 Angus joined Carillion, supporting FM and food services to clients including HSBC, Nationwide, the NHS, Shell and the MOD.  Keeping teams focused on safety as the business went into liquidation was an interesting time! He then led Food Safety / H&S at Aramark Defence Services delivering the new Hestia contracts for the MOD's, mobilising 4,000 people from 10 different organisations / safety cultures.  At ISS he headed up HSEQ up for the Healthcare, Education and Government business.  He enjoyed the challenges of keeping teams and customers fed and safe at DEFRA, acute hospitals, Northern Trains and schools across the UK.  Services were diverse, from serving dignitaries in Whitehall to checking train tickets on the DLR in the east end of London.

Angus loves sport, particularly rugby union, football and cricket, supporting local amateur clubs and watching professional teams alike.  He played rugby to 36 until a double leg fracture and dislocated anklet (should have done a risk assessment).  He enjoys the misery of supporting his hometown football team Sunderland, loves visits to Twickenham to watch England rugby and enjoys watching anyone beat Australia at cricken.

Before working with Compass in Aberdeen Allan worked and lived in Rio de Janeiro for 4 years as Key Account Manager for International Clients, learning to speak and understand Brazilian Portuguese, as 80% of the workforce and some client representatives did not speak English.
The front line teams were always confused when he spoke, as he learned his Portuguese in Rio, which gave him a Carioca accent, mixed with his North East of England accent, this amused them every time.
